External Accreditation / Recognition
Certain modules within the Accounting & Finance programme address the professional body requirements regarding content and assessment and hence are eligible for exemptions.  Such bodies include the
– Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA);
– Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA);
– Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA);
– Institute of Chartered Accountants, England and Wales (ICAEW).
The level of exemption awarded is dependent on the modules studied.

About the Programme

Take advantage of the knowledge you’ve already gained on your previous studies and top up to a full Honours degree with just one more year of study.

This degree equips you with a sound knowledge of accounting and business which will enable you to take up a management position in industry and commerce, or become a professional accountant.

The top up year will see you tackling complicated accounting and ethical issues.  You’ll be studying leading edge and contemporary business and accounting issues, you’ll understand general accounting and business concepts and will develop the skills and techniqes required, through research, critical analysis and evaluation to suggest solutions to real management problems.  You’ll be able to critically evaluate strategic business issues, and you’ll complete your independent study.

Throught the year we will also be developing your personal transferable skills.  These are the skills that complement your academic knowledge and which improve your employability.

Derby teaching staff are all professionally qualified and have industry and academic experience.  As well as teaching on degree programmes, they are also teaching on the professional body courses – ACCA and CIMA.  This means that they are aware of and work to the latest and most current professional standards, so you’ll benefit from their expertise and understanding of the modern business world.

You can study at home, at work, anywhere, anytime that suit you. All you need is a computer with internet access.

Your study materials will be available through the internet. You’re supported through the course by your tutor who is only a click away. You will be able to communicate with other students and your tutors online, through discussion groups and email, so you will be part of an online community for your course.

There is always a demand for accounting graduates.  Our past students have gone on to work for local pblic practices, multi-national accounting firms and taken up accounting careers in merchant banks and other large businesses.  As an accountant you will have the opportunity to work in many diverse fields, anywhere in the world.
